About David Alan Granovetter, MD, FASAM 

Dr, Granovetter is a board-certified addiction medicine physician and certified medical review officer with over two decades of specialized experience in physician well-being, clinical addiction medicine, and evaluations of physicians with impairing or potentially impairing conditions. Dr. Granovetter brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, lived experience in recovery, and leadership in physician health advocacy to his independent evaluation practice.

Professional Background

Following a 36-year career with The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG), Dr. Granovetter has transitioned to private practice, specializing in comprehensive evaluations of healthcare professionals while continuing his advocacy work for physician health and wellbeing. At TPMG, he served as Regional Director for Physician Well-Being, overseeing 15 well-being committees serving over 11,000 physicians. For 20 years, he chaired the Physician Well-Being Committee at Kaiser San Jose Medical Center, developing innovative wellness programs and providing education, evaluation, counseling, and monitoring services for physicians facing impairment or distress.

His clinical career spans both internal medicine-rheumatology and addiction medicine. After practicing as an internist-rheumatologist for 24 years, Dr. Granovetter transitioned to addiction medicine in 2003, serving as Medical Director of Addiction Medicine & Recovery Services at Kaiser San Jose Medical Center from 2010-2017.

Dr. Granovetter currently serves on the Board of Directors of California Public Protection and Physician Health Inc. He is an active member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, California Society of Addiction Medicine, Federation of State Physician Health Programs, California Medical Association, and Santa Clara County Medical Association.
