Practice Background

Following a 36-year career with The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG Inc.-the nation’s largest medical group), Dr. David Granovetter has established this independent evaluation practice to focus on the area of medicine that has defined his professional identity for over two decades—physician health and professional accountability. His practice provides comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations for physicians and other safety-sensitive healthcare professionals.

This transition reflects Dr. Granovetter’s ongoing commitment to advancing the field of physician health while contributing to patient safety, professional restoration, and the integrity of medical practice.

Professional Experience

At TPMG, Dr. Granovetter served as Regional Director for Physician Well-Being, overseeing 15 committees supporting more than 10,000 physicians. For 20 years, he chaired the Physician Well-Being Committee at Kaiser San Jose Medical Center, where he developed physician well-being initiatives and led the committee's work addressing hundreds of physicians with concerns involving impairment, distress, behavioral issues, and professional functioning..

His clinical work spans both Addiction Medicine and Internal Medicine. His clinical career has included Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Addiction Medicine. He transitioned to Addiction Medicine in 2003 and subsequently served as Medical Director of Addiction Medicine & Recovery Services at Kaiser San Jose from 2010–2018.

Dr. Granovetter is also a Certified Medical Review Officer (MRO), with expertise in the interpretation of drug and alcohol testing.

Leadership and Advocacy Work

Dr. Granovetter serves on the Board of Directors of California Public Protection & Physician Health (CPPPH) and is active in the Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP), including committee work addressing public policy, advocacy, and physician health standards. He is also a member of the American and California Societies of Addiction Medicine and the American, California, and Santa Clara County Medical Associations.
