Practice Background
Following a long and distinguished career with The Permanente Medical Group Inc. (TPMG-the largest medical group in the nation), Dr. David Granovetter established this independent evaluation practice to focus on the area of medicine that has defined his professional identity for over two decades—physician health and professional accountability. His practice provides comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations for physicians and other safety-sensitive healthcare professionals throughout California.
This transition reflects Dr. Granovetter’s ongoing commitment to advancing the field of physician health while contributing to patient safety, professional restoration, and the integrity of medical practice.
Professional Experience
At TPMG, Dr. Granovetter served as Regional Director for Physician Well-Being, overseeing 15 committees supporting more than 11,000 physicians. For 20 years, he chaired the Physician Well-Being Committee at Kaiser San Jose Medical Center, where he developed innovative wellness initiatives and led hundreds of evaluations for physicians facing impairment, distress, or behavioral concerns.
His clinical work spans both Addiction Medicine and Internal Medicine. After 24 years in internal medicine and rheumatology, he transitioned to Addiction Medicine in 2003, serving as Medical Director of Addiction Medicine & Recovery Services at Kaiser San Jose from 2010–2018.
As of January 2025, Dr. Granovetter obtained credentials to serve as a Certified Medical Review Officer, offering expertise in the interpretation of body fluid drug and alcohol testing.
Leadership and Advocacy Work
Dr. Granovetter continues to serve on the Board of Directors of California Public Protection and Physician Health, Inc. (CPPPH) working to advance physician health public/patient protection and healthcare quality in California. He is an active member of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP), serving on several committees focusing on ethics, public policy, and physician health standards. He is an active member of the American and California Societies of Addiction Medicine as well as the American, California and Santa Clara County Medical Associations.
